Academic Session 2008-09 – Some Glimpses………………

Dolphin (PG) Institute of Bio-medical and Natural Sciences has covered itself with glory during the past seven years since its inception in 2002.

The current academic session commenced on August 16th, 2008 with the new batch of students from all over the country as well as abroad joining the institute for both undergraduate as well as post graduate programmes for professional and educational excellence to face the competitive world of tomorrow.

At DIBNS, we are proud of our quality of teaching and learning imparted by our highly qualified faculty members. Stress is given to highly productive research in the frontier areas of biomedical technologies in our well equipped laboratories. In-fact our Post Graduate students are actively engaged in such research projects which, apart from honing their laboratory skills also prepares them for the corporate environment.

During the year many research papers authored by our faculty / students have been published in journals of repute and presented in various national & International conferences & workshops.

DIBNS has also made its mark in research activities. The ongoing research projects are:

The Scientific Advisory Committee for the workshop invited eminent academicians and scientists from different parts of the country to deliver lectures on selected topics as per model curriculum for biotechnology which is also relevant to various under and post graduates students from Life Sciences.

The institute further spread its wings by introducing Master programme in Chemistry and Biomedical Sciences

The academic interventions of the institutes have been amply rewarded by the quality of our result and excellent students’ placement. Over the years Dolphinites have given best results in the University Examinations. This year student’s academic performance in all streams has been praiseworthy with nearly 100% success.

The backbone of a professional institute is its placement. A full fledged Placement and Personality Development Cell under the guidance of Dr. Arun Kumar, Director Research, Training and Placement, Mr Sanjay Kapoor, Chief Manager (Training & Placement) alongwith Mr. Ashok Singh, Chief Co-ordinator has yielded great results inspite to the recessionary trend in the economy. Their untiring effort has been able to provide job as well internship placement to most of the students. Our students are placed in the hospitals likes Apollo, Escorts, Dharamshila Cancer Hospital, Moolchand Hospital, AIIMS at Delhi, Fortis, Noida and Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai apart from CMI, Mahant Indresh, Doon Hospital, IMA Blood Bank at Dehradun.

Achieving the Dolphin mission of hundred percent placements “Dolphin Job Fair” was organized on 7th Feb, 2009 at the institute premises. The Job Fair got a tremendous and fabulous response with participation of about 45 companies of high repute. Nearly 1000 students from about 29 colleges and universities across the state participated of which about 500 students have been screened by various companies. Some important companies which short listed the students are Aquamall Water Solution (Eureka Forbes), Ipca Labs., Zee Labs., Kailash Hospital, Physiotherapy Services, Jaipur Hospital College of Physiotherapy, Needs Pharmaceuticals, Elder Pharma, Nector Life Sciences Limited, Glenmark Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd. and Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd. amongst others . Apart from job and internship opportunities the fair provided a knowledge sharing platform both to the academia and industry.

During the stay of the students away form home, it becomes our paramount duty to take care of them so that they do not feel away from home in the new environment. In this regard, the students take active part in cultural, literary, sports and other philanthropic activities for development of team spirit in a new environment to help them in taking up future challenges.

During the year Dr Rakesh Kumar, as DSW and Mr. Vipul Garg, from Students Welfare Committee have taken many initiatives.

Fresher Parties was organized within the institute in a very organized manner.

As a part of Social Development project, the Students Welfare Committee under Avlamb programme in which more than 300 students from financially weaker strata of Government Schools under gram panchyat Manduwala were given pullovers, socks, shoes, sport equipments and sweets.

The SWC in partnership with Indian Medical association, Blood Bank organized blood donation camps.

The Students Welfare Committee continued with disbursing of special scholarship to the deserving students from economically weaker section of the society.

Carrying forward DIBNS mission of serving the society the Dolphin Institute of Biomedical & Natural Sciences is fulfilling this objective through education, research work OPD/hospital setup to improve the life of local residence of Dehradun. Special programme and Health Camps are organized time to time under the guidance of Dr. R.K. Srivastava & Dr. D.K. Gupta. Students form Medical Laboratory Technology, Physiotherapy, Medical Microbiology and Biochemistry actively participate in such camps. Various camps organized during the session were at different villages like Dunga, Bidholi, Kandoli and Poundha. Various Health Centres are being run for Physiotherapy services in which centers at Sanjeevni Hospital, Prem Sukh Hospital, Jain Charitable Hospital, Jan Kalyan Hospital and Lions Club were included in the year 2008-09.

As has been rightly said äll work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. In this regard, Dolphinites have been quite active in participating in various sports activities both within the campus and outside.

National Service Scheme (NSS) activities have also taken roots in the institute with the first camp under direction of Mr Vipul Garg and Dr K P Tripathi to be conducted shortly.

Though the laurels of the institute and its team are growing, the same would not have been possible without the help and support from our proactive management who have been the first to seize opportunities for the betterment of the institute and its students.
