prevent, cure, and relieve symptoms of disease? How about
improving analytical techniques for monitoring the levels of
drugs in the body? With a degree in pharmaceutical
chemistry, you can make an important difference in the lives
of patients suffering from disease and the physicians who
treat them.Pharmaceutical chemists use both sophisticated
instrumentation and simple analytical procedures to study
drugs and chemicals which are present in drug samples or
taken from humans or animals who have been treated with a
drug. Pharmaceutical chemists may develop new methods to
determine if an experimental drug is actually absorbed by
the tissues where it needs to work. These chemists typically
work in teams of professionals during the development and
testing of new drugs. The demand is strong for professionals
with expertise in pharmaceutical chemistry. You can pursue
rewarding positions in:
-
Pharmaceutical firms
-
Government laboratories such as The Food and drug
administration, Department of Agriculture,
Environmental protection agency, National Institutes of
health and CDRI.
-
Industrial settings, where you may function as part of a
drug development team or work in production, quality
control or sales.
Bio-Chemistry
Biochemistry offers tremendous challenges to understand the
most fundamental life's processes at the molecular level and
to utilize this knowledge for the benefit of people.
Biochemists have benefited mankind enormously through the
use of genetic engineering to enable the production of
therapeutically important human proteins such as insulin for
diabetes, blood clotting factors for bleeding disorders,
immunity boosting proteins (several of these are produced by
industry) for immune disorders and cancer. Proteins
identified using biochemistry are benefiting mankind today
and represent about 7-8% of total drugs used. With the
charting of the sequence of full complement of the human
genetic material over the last decade and exploitation of
the sequence by biochemists to produce proteins, this figure
is expected to rise from 7-8% to 25% by 2010.Those who make
a career in this science find it endlessly fascinating, very
rewarding and very fulfilling. There is a large demand for
biochemist. The Government want more scientists and
technologists in all walks of life to take advantage of
recent advances in knowledge. Job prospects are fair for new
biochemistry graduate as compared with that of biological
sciences as a whole and for new graduates overall.
Biochemists find themselves placed at high profile jobs with
agriculture Universities and medical organizations, R&D
openings in Pharmaceutical/ diagnostic companies, quality
control/ quality assurance, as analyst in various food
industries (Nestle, Cadbury, Dabur etc.). Research
opportunities are also available at renowned institutes and
organizations such as (BARC, CDRI, IVRI etc.)
Chemistry
The
word "Chemistry" itself is a wide term. This section of
science provides a wide platform for job and research
opportunities. With a degree in chemistry, you can touch any
field that is related to chemistry for e.g. industrial
chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, synthetic and natural
product chemistry etc. A good chemist have a good hold on
instrumentation, simple analytical procedure, drug design

address the fundamental questions originating in biology and
medicine. The course would be suitable for B.Sc. (Hons. &
pass courses) biology graduates who wish to extend their
mathematical, computational and instrumentation skills
necessary to work in biomedical sciences.
Bio-Informatics
Bioinformatics is the recent emerging science in
biotechnology which is primarily the science of in-silico
analysis. In simplest terms bioinformatics is the symbiotic
relationship between the computational and biological
sciences. The exploration of human genome where the ability
to sort & extricate genetic code from a human genomic
database of 3 billion pairs of DNA is perhaps the simplest
form of this emerging science. Simultaneously it can probe
at higher performs like Pharmacogenomics, Chemoinformatics,
Drug design etc. Therefore the biotech industry presently
depends on bioinformatics for more meaningful ways in
understanding the complex genomes of microbes, plants and
animals. All the modern & upcoming pharmaceutical, health
laboratories & drug design industries are greatly dependent
on bioinformatics databases. All such industries and
institutions will have a great demand for trained students
in bioinformatics.
Education B.Ed.
The
whole fabric of society depends upon education. The role of
teacher is crucial in any program of education as the status
of a teacher reflects the socio-cultural ethos of the
society. It is rightly said that no people can rise above
the level of their teachers. Thus, the need for quality
education has become a global concern. The teachers should
be efficient professionals having rich combination of
skills, knowledge and experiences as well as responsibility
and commitment to work in a world of new demands. They
should be self actualised persons having capacity to ensure,
develop, promote, implement and evaluate learning, which
impact and influence our community. Quality assurance is the
need of today's educational system, as teachers are the
foundation pillars on which development of the nation rests.
Teacher education prepares social leaders who can build a
better society. Graduates becoming educational leaders can
serve the community, solve the social problems and reform
the society. B. Ed. training is an essential component of
secondary education. A proper and well organized system
requires the selection of right people at right place. In
totality, the trainers look forward to the career in the
field of human resource development.
