Bio-Technology

Today, the term biotechnology has yet a wider meaning. Biotechnology now refers to the use of living organisms or their products to modify human health and the human environment. One common misconception is that biotechnology deals only with genetic engineering. Biotechnology actually involves applications that touch on a wide range of scientific areas and technologies from agriculture to zoology. The biotech industry seems to make big headlines every day for its rapid scientific advancements in many areas such as cloning, genetically modified food/crops, medical biotechnology and stem cell research.  A milestone for biotechnology was the year 2000 when scientists completed the first map of the human genome-a blueprint of our genetic makeup. In 2000, the industry as a whole earned approximately $20 billion. More than 350 biotech drug products and vaccines are now in the clinical trials phase of development, targeting illnesses such as Alzheimer's disease, AIDS, heart diseases and various type of cancers.

Medical Lab Technology

It is understood that the physician of today is over worked professionally. It is also established that many of the functions of physician can be performed by biomedical professionals if given relevant education & training. One of such professional is ‘Medical Lab Technologist’ who carries out laboratory works of pathology. Pathology is the study of diseases which is one of the basic branches of clinical medicine. A trained pathologist can work in  many a discrete and diverse areas. He can act as a consultant to physician and patient alike. Potential areas of intake are-diagnostic laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, paramedical services and industries dealing in water analysis, sewage treatment, environmental monitoring etc. Hospitals and medical labs in India and abroad are looking out for professional in these fields. Govt. jobs (As health or drug inspectors) and the teaching profession, are also among good opportunities.

Forestry

Global concern about natural resource conservation and sustainable management requires trained forest managers for the management of world forests. Forestry graduates may look forward for career in Indian Forest Services and State Forest Services, various departments of ministry of environment and forests, agricultural and forestry Universities, wood and non-wood forest based industries like plywood, furniture, medicinal plants etc., Soil conservation, watershed management and plantation. agencies and organizations, NGOs in the filed of environment management, rural and tribal development etc. International agencies like FAO, DANIDA, CIFOR, SIDA, USAID, DFID, etc. also offer placement to forestry graduates.

Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Would you like to help, develop and evaluate new medications that prevent, cure, and relieve symptoms of disease? How about improving analytical techniques for monitoring the levels of drugs in the body? With a degree in pharmaceutical chemistry, you can make an important difference in the lives of patients suffering from disease and the physicians who treat them.Pharmaceutical chemists use both sophisticated instrumentation and simple analytical procedures to study drugs and chemicals which are present in drug samples or taken from humans or animals who have been treated with a drug. Pharmaceutical chemists may develop new methods to determine if an experimental drug is actually absorbed by the tissues where it needs to work. These chemists typically work in teams of professionals during the development and testing of new drugs. The demand is strong for professionals with expertise in pharmaceutical chemistry. You can pursue rewarding positions in:

  • Pharmaceutical firms
  • Government laboratories such as The Food and drug administration, Department of Agriculture,  Environmental protection agency, National Institutes of health and CDRI.
  • Industrial settings, where you may function as part of a drug development team or work in production, quality control or sales.

Bio-Chemistry

Biochemistry offers tremendous challenges to understand the most fundamental life's processes at the molecular level and to utilize this knowledge for the benefit of people. Biochemists have benefited mankind enormously through the use of genetic engineering to enable the production of therapeutically important human proteins such as insulin for diabetes, blood clotting factors for bleeding disorders, immunity boosting proteins (several of these are produced by industry) for immune disorders and cancer. Proteins identified using biochemistry are benefiting mankind today and represent about 7-8% of total drugs used. With the charting of the sequence of full complement of the human genetic material over the last decade and exploitation of the sequence by biochemists to produce proteins, this figure is expected to rise from 7-8% to 25% by 2010.Those who make a career in this science find it endlessly fascinating, very rewarding and very fulfilling. There is a large demand for biochemist. The Government want more scientists and technologists in all walks of life to take advantage of recent advances in knowledge. Job prospects are fair for new biochemistry graduate as compared with that of biological sciences as a whole and for new graduates overall. Biochemists find themselves placed at high profile jobs with agriculture Universities and medical organizations, R&D openings in Pharmaceutical/ diagnostic companies, quality control/ quality assurance, as analyst in various food industries (Nestle, Cadbury, Dabur etc.). Research opportunities are also available at renowned institutes and organizations such as (BARC, CDRI, IVRI etc.)

Chemistry

The word "Chemistry" itself is a wide term. This section of science provides a wide platform for job and research opportunities. With a degree in chemistry, you can touch any field that is related to chemistry for e.g. industrial chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, synthetic and natural product chemistry etc. A good chemist have a good hold on instrumentation, simple analytical procedure, drug design and their development etc. By using this degree you can enter in the world of chemical science involving various kind of developments, creativity and opportunity of job in the following areas:

  • In polymer industries, paper and pulp industries, dye industries, pharmaceutical industries and paint industries etc.
  • As a teaching faculty in engineering colleges, (PG) colleges, biomedical and paramedical colleges etc.
  • In various reputed chemical industries for e.g. ONGC, Indian oil and other oil and petrochemical industries.
  • In food and fertilizer industries, seed development industries and various mineral and material sciences.

Bio-Medical Sciences

The objective of this two year M.Sc. course is to introduce the students to an inter-disciplinary approach of research, which utilizes technologies and skills from a wide spectrum of scientific, engineering and clinical disciplines to address the fundamental questions originating in biology and medicine. The course would be suitable for B.Sc. Bio-Informatics

Bioinformatics is the recent emerging science in biotechnology which is primarily the science of in-silico analysis. In simplest terms bioinformatics is the symbiotic relationship between the computational and biological sciences. The exploration of human genome where the ability to sort & extricate genetic code from a human genomic database of 3 billion pairs of DNA is perhaps the simplest form of this emerging science. Simultaneously it can probe at higher performs like Pharmacogenomics, Chemoinformatics, Drug design etc. Therefore the biotech industry presently depends on bioinformatics for more meaningful ways in understanding the complex genomes of microbes, plants and animals. All the modern & upcoming pharmaceutical, health laboratories & drug design industries are greatly dependent on bioinformatics databases. All such industries and institutions will have a great demand for trained students in bioinformatics.

Education B.Ed.

The whole fabric of society depends upon education. The role of teacher is crucial in any program of education as the status of a teacher reflects the socio-cultural ethos of the society. It is rightly said that no people can rise above the level of their teachers. Thus, the need for quality education has become a global concern. The teachers should be efficient professionals having rich combination of skills, knowledge and experiences as well as responsibility and commitment to work in a world of new demands. They should be self actualised persons having capacity to ensure, develop, promote, implement and evaluate learning, which impact and influence our community. Quality assurance is the need of today's educational system, as teachers are the foundation pillars on which development of the nation rests. Teacher education prepares social leaders who can build a better society. Graduates becoming educational leaders can serve the community, solve the social problems and reform the society. B. Ed. training is an essential component of secondary education. A proper and well organized system requires the selection of right people at right place. In totality, the trainers look forward to the career in the field of human resource development.
